Adoption

The Wald Law Group provides a broad variety of adoption services to individuals and couples seeking to adopt and/or requiring legal assistance with their adoptions. We handle all types of adoptions, with an emphasis on "non-traditional" adoptions. Services include:
  • 2nd parent and domestic partner adoptions; agency, independent, and international adoptions on behalf of LGBT clients
  • Domestic "re-adoptions" of children following an international adoption
  • Independent, agency and 2nd parent adoptions for married and unmarried heterosexual couples
  • Single parent adoptions, stepparent adoptions and adult adoptions
  • Advice and referrals for couples and individuals trying to locate a child for adoption and/or determine what type of adoption is right for them; termination of birth parents' rights; and finalizations of adoptions.
In addition to the adoption services listed above, the Wald Law Group also handles guardianships (including disputed guardianships) and contested adoptions.

The Wald Law Group does not work directly with birth mothers or facilitators, and therefore does not place babies/children with prospective parents for adoption. However, we have excellent contacts in adoption agencies and placing offices throughout the Bay Area.

"My partner and I were working through a local adoption agency for a domestic adoption. Our official wait time was approaching a year and we were starting to investigate other options. A friend had suggested we contact Deborah Wald. Deborah was knowledgeable, friendly and supportive, and helped us understand how the adoption process worked. When the agency placed our son with us, we did not hesitate to hire her to help us with termination of the birth parents' rights and with finalizing our adoption. She was helpful through the process, and was next to us in court when the judge granted our adoption. We definitely recommend her to other couples looking to adopt, or who need help finalizing their adoptions."

"I became the legal guardian of my daughter when she was four months old. Two years later I was looking to finalize our arrangement through adoption. I had no idea what to expect or what the process was to adopt a child. Deborah Wald came highly recommended as a lawyer who will work for you, who is honest and fair. I called her up and she was so helpful explaining to me what I needed to do and what the process was even before I retained her. She helped me through, what I thought was going to be the most difficult process I'd ever undertake, step-by-step. She celebrated with me and my family every milestone of the adoption process and she was by my side when the final adoption decree was granted. I have and will continue to recommend Deborah Wald to anyone needing assistance in adoption."
